We know it can be very frustrating when you hear yout A/C unit working but the air coming from the vents isn’t cooling things off like it should.
Keeping your home A/C unit working well can save energy, money and a lot of discomfort on your part. If it’s alreay starting to wimp out on you, there might be a few reasons:
- Check that the A/C is actually on. It sounds obvious, but it’s an easy mistake to hear the fan recirculating the air and assuming the A/C is on.
- Check for clogged filters. It may only be one small component of your A/C unit, but clogged air filters can obstruct necessary airflow and significantly decrease the effectiveness of your A/C unit’s cooling abilities. Learn how to check and change your air filter.
- Check the position of your temperature sensor. Located behind the control panel, the thermostat sensor can sometimes be out of place and may be incorrectly sensing the temperature in the room. Simply repositioning the wire to be near the coil, but not touching it, may help kick your air conditioner back into gear.
- Check that the refrigerant isn’t low or leaking. A good A/C unit shuoldn’t require you to continue replacing your refrigerant every year. You may need to call a professional HVAC service to repair any leaks and add refrigerant to your A/C unit.
