What is the iWave-R Air Purifier?
Nu-Calgon’s iWave-R Air Purifier bills itself as “the world’s first self-cleaning, no maintenance needlepoint bi-polar ionization generator designed specifically for treating air in residential duct A/C systems.” While that sentence is a mouthful and sounds complex, the unit itself isn’t.
As air flows through the iWave-R, it is purified, killing viruses, bacteria and mold via positive and negative ions. Not only does this ionization process purify the living space and coils in the A/C unit itself, but it also reduces airborne allergens and smoke as well as controlling pet odors, cooking smells, VOCs and static electricity. The iWave-R actively removes a wide variety of particles without creating any ozone or other harmful byproducts.
How the iWave-R Air Purification System Works
To date, Nu-Calgon has shipped hundreds of thousands of iWave-R Air Purifiers across the country. The device can be retroactively installed in any brand of residential duct air conditioning systems up to 6 tons in size (2400 CFM) with no maintenance and no replacement parts. The iWave-R can be installed in various locations, including between the air filter and cooling coil—or directly into the supply air.
The system is capable of producing 320 million total ions per cubic centimeter, which is more than any other ionizer on the market to date. It also features a self-cleaning routine that can be set to run every 1, 3, 5 or 10 days, and it doesn’t create “black walls” like negative-only ionizers do.

iWave-R Installation Warranty and Maintenance
In addition to Richmond’s Air’s outstanding warranty period of 1 year for parts and labor on all repair work and 10 years on system replacements, Nu-Calgon offers a 3-year limited warranty on all iWave devices.
The iWave-R is designed to be installed and operated long-term, with little to no maintenance. According to Nu-Calgon, the ion emitters (fiber brushes) used in the devices are designed to be easily replaced should the need arise with just a Phillips head screwdriver.
